How to Use a Dibble

Push the dibble down into the prepared soil. If the point of the dibble is sharp and the wood is smooth it will make a cylindrical hole. Make a hole large enough to comfortably hold all the roots of the young plant.

Put the plant in the hole, inserting all the roots, then dibble a second hole into the soil at an angle of at least 45°. Push the dibble sideways towards the plant; this will make the soil firm round the roots.

Then carefully withdraw the dibble so that it leaves a smooth hole at the side. Fill this hole with water from a can end when the water has drained away cover the hole with soil.
