Furniture Beetle

The furniture beetle (Anohium punctatum) infests pine timbers, and shelving, flooring and furniture may he attacked. Willow. maple, beech and certain other timbers may also be infested. Usually the first indications of attack are the flight or exit holes made by the beetles emerging from the wood and the "dust" or wood powder below.

The eggs may be laid in the flight holes, in pores, or on rough wood surfaces. The larvae, at first, bore parallel to the grain of the wood, but later. may tunnel in all directions. When fully-fed, the larvae enter their pupal stage and some weeks later, change into beetles which emerge from the wood, mainly in October. Overlapping generations may give rise to adults throughout the summer. Under ordinary conditions the life cycle lasts two to three years.
